Preserving Lakota Way of Life Through Our Youth

Free and Open Software Initiative

For teaching American Indian languages, we are seeing more grassroots usage out of websites like YouTube, Facebook, and WordPress.

Today's workforce requires Internet and Web skills. We are all connected, and we all benefit from the Internet. Even if we don't use the Internet our employers, co-workers, and friends do. The Internet has changed everything, and now each year small improvements are bringing us ever more closer together. New products and services that use the Internet have reshaped how we work and communicate.
  • Smart devices 2007 (Android Phone, iPhone, iPad)
  • Social networks 1997 (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Websites 1989 (Wikipedia, Google)
  • Email 1971 (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail)
At the same time there is a need for more American Indian language resources (in print, online, and in person among communities). We need to help our communities, governments, schools, and our higher education "say yes" to computers, servers, and capabilities that our students and educators are asking for.
