Tusweca Tiospaye
Tusweca Tiospaye is a Native 501(c)(3) that is devoted to the promotion and strengthening of the Lakota language on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, home of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
We are 100% Lakota operated, based on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and operate with community and Oglala Sioux Tribal Council support.

Our mission is to create a strong, healthy, and prosperous environment in which children and their families can learn and incorporate the Lakota language into their daily lives.
Vision
We operate with the vision that one day children and their families will feel safe and comfortable in using the Lakota language as their primary language in the home and in the community.
Goal
Our goal is to revitalize the Lakota language by creating new generations of Lakota speakers.

Lakota Language
The Lakota language is in a very serious situation and is becoming alarmingly close to being lost. On the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation only 26% of the Lakota population claims to have any Lakota language ability. The average age of a fluent speaker is 65 years. These speakers continue to age and when they are gone there are currently no new generations of speakers to take their place.
